Regarding the promotion of seven associates to the position of senior research associate, Dr. Marija Drobnjaković, Dr. Jelena Ćalić, Dr. Milan Milenković, Dr. Ana Milanović Pešić, Dr. Gorica Stanojević, Dr. Jovana Brankov, and Dr. Nina B. Ćurčić, a suitable cocktail reception was held at the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. After this promotion, the number of senior research associates at the Institute increased to 16.

The special issue “Transboundary catchment erosion and pollution” is a follow up of the international conference, which was held in Belgrade, Serbia, in July 2023 and organized by Geographical institute “Jovan Cvijić” SASA.
As part of the bilateral project of scientific and technological cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China, a group of researchers from the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" SASA, Dr. Darko Vuković (project leader), Dr. Ana Milanović Pešić, Dr. Marko D. Petrović, and Dr. Stefan Denda (project team members) realized a study stay in the People's Republic of China on December 18–26, 2023.

In the period from 2021 to 2023, the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" SASA and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) implemented a bilateral project of scientific and technological cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China entitled "Comparative Research on Sino-Serbia Disaster Risk Prevention and Control from the Viewpoint of Multi-disasters."

The team of the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" SASA is one of the winners of the Public Call for funding citizen science research projects in 2023, which was announced by the Center for the Promotion of Science with the support of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation.



Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" SASA, received with great sadness the news that Elena Leonidovna Vorobyevskaya, research associate of the department of rational use of nature, Faculty of Geography, MSU Lomonosov, Moscow, Russia, passed away on September 27, 2023.

Milan T. Stevančević, BSc Eng of Electronics and the founder of the Belgrade School of Meteorology, a tireless researcher of nature and its laws, died in Belgrade on October 18, 2023. For more than two decades, he intensively collaborated with the Department of Physical Geography of the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" SASA. The result of that cooperation are numerous works, published in national and international scientific journals and presented at scientific meetings.

Four researchers from the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" SASA, Dr. Zlata Vuksanović-Macura, Dr. Dragana Miljanović, Dr. Dejan Doljak and Dr. Marko Filipović, spent one month study stay in Aalborg, Denmark, within the DASH - Deliver Safe and Social Housing project, funded by the European Union under the Programme Horizon Europe – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (number 101086488).

Dr. Marko D. Petrović visited the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA), Department of Planning, as part of the Farm2Facts (F2F) Program in July 2023. The visit aimed to employ project tasks in the field of rural development, analysis, and improving the local marketplaces based on empirical research and theoretical methods. The Program is developed and operated in collaboration with UW-Madison.
