In the period from 2021 to 2023, the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" SASA and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) implemented a bilateral project of scientific and technological cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China entitled "Comparative Research on Sino-Serbia Disaster Risk Prevention and Control from the Viewpoint of Multi-disasters."
The project was funded by the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation (former Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development) of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Science and Technological Development of the People's Republic of China.
As part of the mentioned project, in the period November 25 to December 01, 2023, a group of researchers from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was in the Republic of Serbia. The delegation consisted of professors Erfu Dai (project leader), Shaohong Wu, Jiangbo Gao, and Lulu Liu (project team members). The study stay was realized as part of the project activities of the researchers from the Chinese institute engaged in this project.
During the visit of colleagues from China to our Institute, a working meeting was organized with the aim of developing further cooperation between the two institutions, publications, and future joint activities.
During the study stay of colleagues from China, fieldwork was also organized, which included a visit to the loess profiles in the Fruška Gora National Park, observation of the mega-landslides on the Belgrade-Smederevo route, as well as the visit of the geological profile Kanjon Boljetinske reke (Boljetin River Canyon) in the Đerdap National Park and Geopark, where flash flood in June 2023 occurred.
