The Primary School Teachers’ Association of the Republic of Serbia (PSTARS) has published the handbook „How to protect ourselves against natural disasters - Handbook for primary school teachers”. The Handbook is the result of cooperation beetween PSTARS and UNICEF, while the researchers from the Geographical Institute „Jovan Cvijić“ SASA were involved as authors of particular chapters. The aim of the publication is to raise the awareness of the importance of protection against natural disasters. The Handbook provides information about the genesis of various disasters which can affect the citizens of Serbia, about the indicators of disasters in the environment, about the proper reactions in hazardous events and where to find the information about particular natural hazards. The importance of education, as well as the role of children, teachers and family in the system of protection against natural disasters, are emphasized.
